Themes are relevancy of Shakespeare in 2017.

Image result for is shakespeare still relevant todayMany people still believe that Shakespeare is relevant today as they believe his influence on the English language is something that should not be overlooked. He has created certain sayings and words that are still used in today time and will probably be continued to be used in the future.

Shakespeare invented around three thousand words, which were added to the English language. Some examples of these words are bedroom, hint, swag, uncomfortable and assassination. If Shakespeare had never been alive the English language would not be as it is today and we might be using very different words in our everyday life.

His work is seen as universal and enduring and the characters that he created link in very well with that idea. The concepts that he came up with such as Hamlet’s anguish, Ophelia’s distress, the enduring love between Romeo and Juliet could be seen as recurring themes that occur to everyone even now.

In Samuel Johnson’s preface to "The Plays of Shakespeare" (1765), he wrote, “His characters … are the genuine progeny of common humanity, such as the world will always supply, and observation will always find.” This then helps to further demonstrate the ideas that we all can relate to some of the situations that he places his characters in.

Many people also believe that without William Shakespeare, our society would still believe that women have no rights and that Men are superior to women, so all women should be very grateful of William Shakespeare as he is not just a poet but was also a leading part of the woman's rights movement.

In conclusion I feel that Shakespeare is still relevant today as studying Shakespeare's works in the classic language has actually been shown to be quite beneficial. A study was done that found that classic texts like Shakespeare's aid in self-reflection by stimulation in certain parts of the brain. The idea that Shakespeare crosses cultural boundaries and that His plots are about humanity and the changes and chances of this fleeting world show that he is still very relevant in today's society.
